It has been almost a decade since we first traveled Mongolian wilderness in a Russian jeep in search of a great Taimen fishery in 1995. So often fishing is just a wonderful excuse to see great country. Most exploratory trips are tremendous experiences to areas that just don't quite meet the demands of the growing ranks of fly fishermen that travel. This was the expectation for our first trip to Mongolia.

After 10 successful seasons, and a lot of happy clients, Mongolia remains one of the most unique fly fishing experiences on the planet, and our personal favorite. Mongolia travel presents a rare glimpse of a wild exotic land unchanged in time. For most, just the opportunity to experience a pristine unfenced landscape, undeveloped river valleys lined with healthy forests and high peaks or a pair of Mongolian riders driving their stock through a high mountain meadow on a crisp fall morning is enough.

But for the fly fishermen, Mongolia takes a great journey a step further. I remember my first encounter with a Taimen on our original exploratory Mongolian trip. I was fishing a mouse pattern across a classic steelhead run admiring the river and the morning. Upriver I could see another member of our party highlighted in the morning sun, the huge larch trees orange with their fall foliage, mist rising all around and the river roiling through a field of boulders. . . It was truly exhilarating.

Last year was one of our finest year of fishing in Mongolia. Each week yielded fish over 50 inches and both camps yielded 20 fish days which are unprecedented in the Taimen fishing world.

You will note that our trips are more expensive than other fly-fishing Mongolia travels. However, when making your decision, please consider our record and our commitment to Taimen conservation. We utilize only single, barbless hooks, and all of our fishing is catch and release.

All of our guides are professionally trained, and many of them have been guiding for Taimen for several years. We are not an eco-tourism company that does some fishing. We are professional fly-fishing outfitters who have pioneered fly-fishing for Taimen. We manage our waters very carefully and insure that we can provide quality Taimen fishing each week of the season. After all, if you are going to travel all the way to Mongolia for the trip of a lifetime, you want to make sure you travel with the best.
