 THE FISH HAWK AT FADO
COME JOIN US FOR A TOAST!

As most folks know, the Fish Hawk had to relocate back in August.  Fado Irish Pub had to relocate also.  Why does that matter?  Well, they moved to our old location on Buckhead Avenue!  Now they have re-opened and we are going to Raise a pint (or two) on our old dirt.  After work on Thursday April 3rd we are going to take our old territory back.  I guess you could say we are going to pay homage to all the Fish Hawk Ghosts of the last 30 plus years.  Mark it on your calender.  More info to come!

North Georgia Spring Fishing Outlook

The spring is coming, the caddis flies are hatching and hopefully more rain is on its way.  If your favorite fishery is the Chattahoochee, then the rain is a double-edged sword.  The rains do help fill Lake Lanier but they do interrupt our fishing plans by causing a muddyJordan Noland tailwater.  Luckily the river can clear quickly and we can get our "fly fishing fix."

With the recent rain showers, the creeks in the North Georgia mountains have come up.  With every bit counting the real concern is the long term effects on the water table.  It's the springs that sustain the cool waters that supply the Southern Trout Fishery.  Great fisheries like Noontootla Creek, Duke's Creek, The Chattooga River, and Cooper's Creek need a lot of rain to make up from the deficit of the last couple years and unfotunately short term, heavy rains are not the cure.  A long term wet trend is needed to re-supply the ground water and raise the water table.  If  a wet trend continues we should be able to have more confidence in the health of our favorite fisheries.

As it has become warmer, the caddis flies are  starting to hatch not only on "The 'Hooch", but in other creeks and rivers around the area.  The usual hatch will be in the afternoons, and is large in numbers.   Usually the best pattern is the Elk Hair Caddis.  If the fish is being a little more finicky, it is hard not to miss with the Lawson's Partridge Caddis.  It is a little more sparse and buggy looking, just a little harder to see and fish.  Be ready with an array of Pupa's and emergers.  The Lower River will also be covered up with Mayflies such as Blue Winged Olives and Light Cahills.

The tailwater of the Toccoa river is also very well known for it's Black Caddis hatch.  The Black Caddis is a little bit smaller of a fly, and is a great hatch to fish hexover.  From now till July, the Toccoa is a great river with many different bugs hatching.  Look for Various Caddis, Pale Morning Duns, Sulphurs, and Blue Winged Olives.  It can be fished very effectively from a small boat or canoe, and can also be waded in a few public spots.

With the tenuous situation of the freestone streams of the Southeast, the time to go to the Appalachians will be now through June.  The Tailwaters of GA, NC, and TN will be good untill August, if it stays wet through the summer.  For information on other creeks and rivers all over the Southeast, please come by or call the shop, we would love to tell you the latest on the conditions and answer any questions you may have.
