There are many reasons to
tie a fly. Some like to save money. Some like to “match the hatch”. Some
just can’t find what they’re looking for commercially. Whatever the reason,
tying a fly yourself will make you a better fisherman. Being able to
get inside of a fishes' favorite restaurant and serve them a home cooked
meal can be very satisfying, especially when he or she catches more, and
bigger fish! When this is achieved all the other reasons to tie seem to take
a back seat. Fly tying is often relaxing, vexing, wildly creative, strict,
beautiful and usually very satisfying.
Classes at THE FISH HAWK
When you attend the tying classes expect a very casual atmosphere. This is
for fun. After all you will be with fellow fishermen. The emphasis is on
“learning how to cook, not what to cook.” The patterns you are taught often
involve techniques needed in many patterns. You will learn about materials
and there uses. How to choose and use tools. How to read fly “recipes” and
how to improvise.
The low-down
Classes are offered throughout the winter in the evenings at The Fish Hawk.
Cost is $125. They are once a week sessions for four
